If you’ve been wondering where I disappeared to, I have some big news! I just wrote a new book about taking better pictures of people entitled “Portrait and Candid Photography.”
The release date is October 8, 2007 and it’s available at Amazon, and Barnes & Noble. Published by Wiley and part of the Photo Workshop series, this book helps you understand the basics about capturing beautiful images of people.
For those of you who have been emailing me about more video content, check out the video clips on my Amazon page. Have fun taking pictures!

Can’t wait to get your new book! Are you going to write a series of books or pick up with The Whole Picture? I have the show set to automatically TiVo just in case! Thanks.
Hi Jackie,
Thanks. This is my first book and I hope to write many more. BTW, The Whole Picture is beginning to re-air on DIY beginning October 5th, 2007. Stay tuned!

Dear Erin,
I am thrilled about your new book! As soon as my bookstores around me get it in I am going for it.
I am just starting to understand photography and you are so easy to learn from.
I love the fact that your show is back on TV.
Keep up the great work!
Sincerely,
Sharon
Thanks Sharon,
I’m excited about it too! The book was released in book stores nationwide on October 8, 2007, but you can also order it online from Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Erin,
Today is the first time I have seen your show and really enjoyed it. I would love more information on the screen you were using in your show today (composite photography).
Thanks!
Deb
Hi Deb,
Glad to hear that you’re enjoying the show. The screen I use on the Compositing show (DTWP-206) is a Wacom Cintiq 21UX. It’s an interactive pen display that allows you to use the pen directly on the screen. It helps me work quickly and naturally when I’m enhancing images in Photoshop. Hope that helps!

Erin,
I really enjoy your show and watch it every week. I have recently discovered photography is a real joy and your show really helps me take good photographs.
Could you tell me what software you use on the show for digital photo editing. Your help will be appreciated. Thanks.
Hi Gary,
Thanks for the nice message, I’m happy to hear that you enjoy the show! I use Photoshop Elements for organizing and enhancing digital images on The Whole Picture. You can download a free 30-day trial at Adobe.com
I hope that helps

Erin:
I just started viewing your shows on the HD version of HG TV. Trouble is there seems to be no programming guide as to when the next segment will appear. I am an amature enthusiast interested in digital photography and editing. I currently have a Kodak Z812 and will probably upgrade to a higher tech Canon or a mid range ($) Nikon. Keep up the good shows and I’ll try to find them. Dick H., Ocala, FL
Hi Dick,
Thanks for the email, I’m happy to hear that you’re enjoying the show. I’m not sure what your local programming guide is offering, but here are links to two online programming guides, one on HGTV-HD and the other on DIY – this should make it easier to find the upcoming episodes.

I ordered your book on the 19th and received it on the 23rd and I was so excited. The book is very informational and I hope that it will help me along on my journey as a rookie photographer trying to advance in the area of family photography. Thanks for your wisdom.
Hi Nichole,
You are welcome! Thanks for writing – I’m happy to hear that you are enjoying the book. Have fun taking pictures

Erin:
I cannot thank you enough. Before I got into DSLR photography last November, your book was probably the first photography book I picked up. I guess it was just eye catching. Your book is excellent, with so many great examples, with so much great information, and it’s very easy to understand. It was so inspirational that I’ve already purchased 2 camera bodies, 2 zoom lenses, and 2 prime lenses within the last 8 weeks, haha. And ever since I bought your book, I’ve also bought a ton of other books and magazines, but your book is most likely my favorite book overall. I love your creativity and your wonderful personality. You are absolutely one of the best role models for photographers.
Keep up all of the great work! And thanks again for sharing so many creative ideas with us.
Best Wishes,
Brandon
Hi Brandon,
Thank you for the nice message. It’s gratifying to know that my book had such a positive impact on you! Keep taking lots of pictures and post some so we can take a look.

Hi Erin,
Very nice portfolio and breadth of detail on your site. The layout is very clean and professional. Other photographers could learn a thing or two from you in many areas. I came across your blog/site via the Digital Photography Show, and stopped over to check things out. I am downloading the podcast now, but from Scott’s comments, my guess is this will be another link to add to my favorites!
Hi Jason,
Thank you for the very nice email. I hope you enjoy the show! For those of you who would also like to listen, here’s a link to my interview on The Digital Photography Show with Scott Sherman:
